Thornton faculty composer Donald Crockett brings his ensemble, Xtet, to campus for a night of colorful music from recent decades.

Composer/conductor Donald Crockett is chair of the composition department, director of the USC Thornton Contemporary Music Ensemble, and senior composer-in-residence with the Chamber Music Conference and Composers’ Forum of the East. He has received commissions from the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (composer-in-residence, 1991-97), the Kronos Quartet, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, the Stanford String Quartet and the California EAR Unit. Recent projects have included commissions from the Hilliard Ensemble and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and a work for piano and orchestra commissioned by USC for its 125th anniversary.

Also active as a conductor of new music, Crockett has presented many world, national and regional premieres with the Los Angeles-based new music ensemble Xtet and the USC Thornton Contemporary Music Ensemble, and as a guest conductor with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, the Hilliard Ensemble and the California EAR Unit.

L.A Chapter of the American Harp Society presents Music Education Session I

Harp students of all ages and all levels are encouraged to participate (especially beginners and intermediates).  Students play for an Advisor (guest harp teacher) and get his or her suggestions at the first session, and return at the second session to show the progress they’ve made. This is a master-class type setting (all the participants get to see each others’ performances and interactions with the teacher).  It often gives students a fresh perspective and new inspiration to get suggestions from someone other than their regular teacher, as well as to see and hear other students’ performances and suggestions from the Advisor.

The deadline for performing has already passed, but harpists and non-harpists alike are encouraged to come listen to learn as well as support the harpists who are performing!

Free!

Christmas Is… a holiday tradition here at Citrus, and it just keeps getting better! Join us for a heaping helping of Christmas Spirit – Citrus style!
